Taylor Box Wins Rigid Box of the Year from Paperboard Packaging Council

Taylor Box Company, a leading manufacturer and designer of custom packaging, has won two awards for their continued leadership and innovation in the packaging industry. The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) has recognized Taylor Box with their 2018 Rigid Box of the Year Award and Gold Award for their 2017 Holiday Box.

The award-winning 2017 Holiday Box was a collaboration across Taylor Box, utilizing the internal design and manufacturing assets which have earned the company its stellar reputation.

Original illustrations by Art Director Marken Shedd adorn the outside of the box. The structure of the box itself was engineered by Senior Designer Ken Byrne, and Technician Ron Pointbriant was responsible for the intricate foil stamping decoration.

The creative nesting doll-style design was composed of three subsequently smaller boxes contained within one another. Each box featured inclusive scenes of wintertime play with children from all walks of life.

The box was gifted to clients of Taylor Box for the 2017 Holiday Season and was paired with a philanthropic donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rhode Island on behalf of Taylor Box Company. Regarding the inspiration for the box, Art Director and Graphic Designer Marken Shedd explains “Our company president Dan Shedd wanted to do something with nesting boxes, and we wanted to make him happy, so the design challenge was to incorporate nesting boxes into the Holiday Box design. While thinking about things that nest together, I came across an image of a matryoshka doll, and it was the perfect solution.”

As to why she chose young people in wintertime scenes as the basis of the box, Marken said “Children represent our hope for a better tomorrow, children represent some of our best qualities— acceptance, curiosity, playfulness. A child doesn’t care what your gender, age, ethnicity, religion or personal preferences are so long as you will play with them.”

Along with Taylor Box, the full talent and prowess of the packaging industry were on display at the 2018 PPC Awards, with Graphic Packaging International receiving the Folding Carton of the Year Award and Johns Byrne cinching the Paperboard Package of the Year Award.
