MusicTown holds Rhode Island Rocks Event this Weekend

PAWTUCKET, RI – MusicTown, the online and in person matchmaking service for the music-making community is hosting a celebration of Rhode Island’s unique collaborative sound this coming weekend.

The show will include ten Rhode Island based bands, four of which formed at the MusicTown’s Jamathon event earlier this month. This will be the first show for those four new bands ranging in musical influences and instrumentation. The event will take place this Saturday night, October 18th, at Machines with Magnets, located at 400 Main St. in downtown Pawtucket. Doors open at 8pm with music stating at 8:30pm. Ticket prices are $5 in advance at bit.ly/rirocks or $10 at the door; student’s price is $8. A portion of all proceeds will go to the Rhode Island Hall of Fame’s ongoing work preserving and sharing our music heritage and culture.

Rhode Island rocks is different than other shows in that it’s not only a showcase of a selection of local band talent, but also to takes notice of the people who connect and collaborate with other local musicians to create new music in this region. That will be the focus of the live compilation album recorded to amplify the grassroots united sound of our region at this time.

The event will include a crowd-voting element for the favorite RI theme song, sponsored by Hope Media. The band with the most votes that night will receive a $500 cash prize and studio recording time at Castle Entertainment.

Event sponsors include Flatbread Company, Foolproof Brewing, Granny Squibb’s Iced Teas, Three Sisters, Musician’s Corner and Village Drum and Music.

This is the second year MusicTown has held the Jamathon event connecting musicians around Rhode Island and the first time it’s included a chance for people to come see the new bands live. They also hold regular events for the music community in Rhode Island and Boston, MA.
