Kick Off Holiday Shopping With Unique Native Gifts

MASHANTUCKET, CT — The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center and Northeastern Indigenous Arts Alliance invite the public to the Winter Moon Native Artists Market on Friday & Saturday, Nov. 28-29, 11 am-3 pm. This event is a rare opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind items from indigenous artists in a culturally meaningful environment. Finds include wampum jewelry, pottery, weaving, gourds, painting, sculpture, dolls, and more.

The Winter Moon Market is located in the Museum’s expansive Gathering Space, which affords a sweeping view of the cedar forest. This event marks the last days of the ongoing celebration of Native American Heritage Month and the last chance to visit the Museum before its seasonal closure beginning on Nov. 30. Museum admission is not required to attend the market.

Among the artists’ tables, you will find:

• Stone, shell, silver, and antler sculpture by Jon Campbell (Narragansett)
• Regalia accessories and jewelry by Anemone Mars (Narragansett)
• Cedar boxes and jewelry by Darren Etsitty (Navajo)
• Gourds and books by Jeanne Kent (Abenaki)
• Gourds by RJ Russell (Mohegan)

The Pequot Café is serving favorite Thanksgiving entrées throughout Thanksgiving week, including savory corn chowder, raspberry-roasted turkey breast, red bliss mashed potatoes, maple syrup-roasted butternut squash, wild rice herb stuffing, and pumpkin pie.

Guests are also encouraged to explore the Museum’s 85,000-square-feet of world-class exhibits, for the cost of Museum admission. Adults (age 19-54) – $20; Seniors (55 & older) – $15; College Students – $15; Children (6-18) – $12; Children under 6 – Free. Thanksgiving entrées: $10.95 – $14.95.
