Five Choreographers Collaborate on a Rhode Island Premier! The Making of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Join Us for 4 Great Community Preview Events!

The Making of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland:
The State Ballet of Rhode Island (SBRI) is excited to announce a company premiere, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland-“a ballet in two acts with whimsical music composed by Joseph Horovitz.
The State Ballet of Rhode Island’s  five Resident Choreographers have take on this large-scale collaboration along with Herci Marsden, the company’s Artistic Director and Founding Prima Ballerina. The significance of this premiere and how it came to be is a story that is deeply rooted in the company’s long-standing history. This large-scale production will include several local choreographers, artists & designers.
From 1960-1983, The State Ballet of Rhode Island’s Artistic Advisor was Sir Anton Dolin. Dolin was godfather to the Marsden children. As a young child, Ana Marsden Fox (SBRI’s Executive Director) was given a record of “Alice in Topsey Turvey Land” from Dolin; which he was also the Narrator of. This memory gave way to creating a new ballet and research began to find the right music. Fox and a Board Member came across the music by Joseph Horovitz from The London Festival Ballet’s production in 1953-of which Dolin was the Artistic Director. A new friendship began once Fox and Horovitz connected and reminisced about their connection to Dolin and he has allowed SBRI to use his composition along with music from his private collection to use for this premiere.
In addition to the beautiful choreography, there will also be over 70 new costumes and numerous accessories created by a team of four costume designers, an aerial silks artist, 3 set designers, new backdrops, props, scenery and digital lighting.
This is a performance not to be missed!
