PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Calling all young writers! If you enjoy reading books and would like to try writing your own, then hurry along to three great workshops at Providence Community Library! Kate Klise, award-winning author of picture books and middle school grade novels, will share her secrets of successful story-telling on August 15 and 20.  Two workshops are aimed at elementary grades and the third at slightly older students.

Wanskuck Library (233 Veazie St., 401-274-4145) – Wednesday, August 20, 1:00p.m.-2:00p.m.

Why are some books impossible to put down and others hard to finish? In this workshop, Kate will help students get started on their own original books using the narrative model found in much of Western literature, from classic fairy tales to Hollywood blockbusters (Grades 5-10).

Kate Klise is an award-winning writer of children’s fiction and is well-known for several popular series of books, including “43 Old Cemetery Road” (six installments) , the” Three-Ring –Rascals”(three installments) and the “Regarding” books (four volumes).  She is an avid fan of letter-writing and this has influenced the format of her works, which are often illustrated by her sister, Sarah. Her “salty-sweet” books for older children sometimes tackle serious themes such as family dynamics, bereavement and hoarding. She is a freelance writer for “People” magazine.

Space is limited -please call the children’s desks to register for these events. The Rochambeau workshop is kindly sponsored by the Friends of Rochambeau Library. For more information, visit www.provcomlib.org
