Chamber Announces Award Winners at NRI Chamber Annual Dinner on February 10th

LINCOLN, RI –  Governor Gina M. Raimondo will be the Keynote speaker at the Northern Rhode Island Chamber’s Annual Dinner at the Twin River Event Center on Tuesday, February 10 at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the keynote address, the Chamber will also honor Speaker of the House, Nicholas A. Mattiello, and Gary E. Furtado, president/CEO of Navigant Credit Union.

Speaker Mattiello will be recipient of the Barbara C. Burlingame Award . Among the reasons for the nomination of the Speaker to receive the award: He spearheaded the creation of a new Economic Development Planning Council in 2013, he was the instrumental figure in the successful drive to reduce Rhode Island corporate tax rate, his strong support on the education front included millions of additional dollars in support of the state’s public higher education institutions and much needed reform of Rhode Island’s career and technical education (CTE) system, and strong support of estate tax reform.

The Burlingame award was established in 2003 to honor State Representative Burlingame and former Chamber Vice President, to recognize a Rhode Island elected official who has made outstanding contributions to the business community. The award recognizes individuals who exhibit the highest standards of excellence, dedication, and accomplishment in the public service arena.

Furtado will receive the Ben G. Mondor Award. He was nominated for his volunteer work for nearly a dozen charitable organizations across Rhode Island, including a stint as Care New England’s chairman and his current chairmanship of Little Sisters of the Poor. As a trustee for the Providence Performing Arts Center, Gary is a friend to the fast-growing, vibrant local arts community. As an active member of the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club’s executive committee and the Boy Scouts of America’s advisory council, Gary supports the invaluable efforts local youth leaders make to shape the lives of our state’s children.

The Ben G. Mondor award was established in 2011 to honor the former owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox. This philanthropic award is given to an individual who goes above and beyond philanthropically, within the community.
