Call for Applications: $2,000 in IT Scholarship for RI Students

Providence, R.I. – May 13, 2016 – Tech Collective, Rhode Island’s Bioscience and IT industry association, is accepting applications for its 2016 Lighthouse Computer Services/Tech Collective Scholarship. The Lighthouse scholarship aims to raise awareness around the IT and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) industries, particularly in Rhode Island, and to aid in funding and developing the workforce pipeline. This year marks the eighth year of awards for the Lighthouse fund. In total, they have provided over $7,000 to 6 students since 2009.

Lighthouse Computer Services / Tech Collective Scholarship Lighthouse Computer Services and Tech Collective have come together to establish the Scholarship for Computer Science. A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Rhode Island high school and/or post-secondary student who are dedicated to pursuing a career in the Information Technology field. These students will also demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership potential and an affiliation with the US Military. Due Thursday, May 26, 2016.

“To achieve RI’s full economic potential, technology needs to be a larger part of the state’s economy, and building an educated IT workforce is crucial,” said Lighthouse founder and CEO Tom Mrva. “We’re hopeful that the Lighthouse-Tech Collective Computer Sciences Scholarships will open a few doors for talented young people to enter the industry.”

“Tech Collective continues to be proud to work with Lighthouse Computer Services to assist in the education of Rhode Island’s future IT and STEM professionals,” said JoAnn Johnson, director of youth and education programs for Tech Collective. “It’s important to recognize the sacrifices our military families have made, and this is our small way of acknowledging that by offering the annual scholarship.”

Recipients of the scholarship must be a legal Rhode Island resident and attend a Rhode Island college or university. Lighthouse Computer Services will finance the scholarship.
