Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Invites Local Nonprofits to Apply for Day of Service Volunteers

PROVIDENCE, RI – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island
(BCBSRI) is now accepting applications from organizations interested in
participating in the company’s fourth annual statewide day of community
service, Blue across Rhode Island. One of the state’s largest
single-company volunteer days, Blue across Rhode Island provides support to
critical community service organizations. Applications will be accepted
until May 13, 2015.

Since Blue across Rhode Island’s inception four years ago, BCBSRI
associates have provided 11,000 volunteer hours to nonprofit organizations
around the state. In addition to volunteers, BCBSRI also provides each
organization with a $5,000 grant to support expenses incurred for the
volunteer project. Blue across Rhode Island is a core component of BCBSRI’s
nationally recognized employee volunteer program. This year’s Blue across
Rhode Island will take place Friday October 2, 2015.

“Over the last three years, Blue across Rhode Island has become a signature
volunteer effort for BCBSRI, which mobilizes our generous associates for a
powerful day of community service. We are fortunate to partner all year
round, and particularly on this day, with amazing community agencies
committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Rhode Island’s
residents,” said Carolyn Belisle, Managing Director of Community Relations
for BCBSRI. “In 2014, over 78 percent of our workforce volunteered 3,576
hours to twelve outstanding organizations, and we aim to have an even
bigger impact in 2015.”

BCBSRI will consider community-based organizations that align with BCBSRI’s
mission to improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders by improving their
health; special consideration will be given to organizations whose missions
or project ideas focus on children. To qualify, an organization must have
tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status. Organizations must submit their application
online by May 13, 2015.
